I just returned from a week in the Hamptons where I was inspired by everything light, nautical and simple. I reread Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s Gift from the Sea – as I do every summer. I relate so much to her great escape to the beach to find herself again. I think we can all learn something from her wisdom – “One learns first of all in beach living the art of shedding; how little one can get along with, not how much. …Next, Shelter. One does not need the airtight shelter one has in winter in the North. Here I live in a bare sea-shell of a cottage. “ In this case simplification begins on the outside, then moves within. Lindbergh lives with very little furnishings, no rugs and lets the cobwebs comingle with the driftwood and shells she drags in as her art. I am adapting this idea into my life as I re-enter. I have been on this path for a while – pairing down, having less so I can be more. With this new way of living, I have to be even more selective with the precious items I bring into my space. Below are some photos of unique items that are worthy of a place in my new, lighter brighter rooms. I hope you enjoy them and contemplate living with less so that you have room to shine!
