I am lusting after Lacquer. I have been helping clients, for the last few years, to add luster to their apartments and homes – using high-gloss paints in a variety of spaces. I have added a lacquer table here and there. But I have decided to up the gloss factor in my own home by adding more variety and more color. See all my inspirations below. My renewed love affair with lacquer came about when I saw the great turquoise desk that was custom designed for Ivanka Trump by Kelly Behun – featured in a recent issue of Elle Decor Magazine. http://www.elledecor.com/celebrity-style/homes/ivanka-trump-apartment-jared-kushner
One of the reasons that I adore lacquer is that it bridges the gap between old and new; traditional and modern. Originating in East Asia, where artisans decorated objects using resin tinted with charcoal or cinnabar, lacquer later inspired the likes of Thomas Chippendale and Eileen Gray. It has been seen for decades in the most traditional homes as well as in the hippest, most contemporary houses.
Today, there are so many items available in a range of different price points that will add so much pop and life to your room and home. See a sampling below:
Also check out Jonathon Adler’s home collection of lacquer. He is lovin’ lacquer too. www.jonathonadler.com/lacquer-c-529/
He offers everything from coffee tables to trays (a little pricier than west elm but more colorful too) to tissue boxes.
If you just can’t get enough of lacquer and want to go BIG – consider painting walls in a high-gloss paint.
